Nia Holistic Dance Meditation on the Banks of the East Park Reservoir

Awaken all of your senses with a participatory outdoor dance mediation experience at the Discovery Center. Connect to the beauty and sounds of the spring coming alive using the tools of the Nia Dance Technique. Participants will be invited to move outdoors with gentle Nia Technique choreography drawn from multiple dance traditions, martial arts, yoga and other alignment practices. A combination of recorded music and the sounds of the birds, wind and water will be used to inspire a deeper connection to the movements of your own body in the beauty of nature.

Movements will be adaptable to all ability levels, but participants will be hiking on a wooded path, climbing three flights of stairs to an outdoor platform and walking on a floating dock with shifting weight. This 90-minute event is free, but requires pre-registration because space is limited. We will begin together at the Discovery Center, promptly at 11:00 am. Please bring your own water bottle and either a towel or yoga mat for stretching on. The experience will be partially in the shade and possibly in the sun, so please come prepared with a hat and sunscreen, if you like. There is no need for any dance experience, just a willingness to move in a non-judgmental and inclusive environment.

About the Instructor: Lisa Zahren is a certified Nia instructor who has been teaching Nia for nine years. She believes that the freedom to feel safe and at home in your own body is a universal human right.
